Season and Year: A Seasonal Year, defined by USYSA, begins on September 1 each Calendar Year and ends on August 31 of the following Calendar Year. Seasons are Fall and Spring. The Fall Season typically begins with practices in July or August and ends with League or Tournament play in November. The Spring Season typically begins with practices in March and ends with League or Tournament play in May or June.

Player Placement: A Player is registered for a Seasonal Year and his/her VYSA Appropriate Age is based on their age as of August 1st. Players will be placed on an Age Appropriate Team, unless a Team cannot be formed in their Division.

Costs:  A Player’s cost will vary depending on the Team’s decisions, with coaching, equipment needed, and tournaments attended being the biggest variables, along with the number of Players on the Team.   Most Players can anticipate a Team Fee of $200-$275, not including uniform, per Season.

Following are rough estimates of most Team’s Costs –

 Player Expectations:

  • Players are expected to conduct themselves in a proper manner and according to the Player Conduct Code they are required to sign.
  • Players are expected to attend all practices, games, and tournaments the Team has chosen to attend.
  • Players are expected to have a positive attitude and support team play.
  • Players are expected to be Team oriented.
 Parent Expectations:
  • Parents are expected to conduct themselves in a proper manner and according to the Parent Conduct Code they are required to sign.
  • Parents are expected to support the Team.
  • Parents are expected to transport Players to practice and games in a timely manner.
  • Parents are expected to fulfill their financial obligation.
Club Expectations:
  • Parents and Players are expected to take an active part in Club functions such as the Annual Meeting held in June and hosted Tournaments.
  • Parents and Players can expect a safe playing environment. The Club appreciates notification of any issues where safety is a factor.
  • While formed by the Club, Teams operate somewhat individually. The Club will support Teams in their endeavors as appropriate.
Critical to Understand:

·       With a relatively small pool of area Players, it is not always possible to form a Team for all Divisions. Depending on this pool of eligible players, the Club will form as many Teams practical, placing as many Players possible on appropriate Teams, using all available resources and accounting for as many factors as possible.

·       Because Team sizes will vary, because Game situations will vary, because Players will vary – it will be difficult (or impossible) to give all players equal playing time in all games. And while some Players will get more playing time, all Players should make the most of their time when given the opportunity.

·       While Teams hire their Team’s Coach, the Club provides oversight and direction through the Director of Coaching. And while playing time will vary – EVERY Player should ALWAYS receive equal coaching in practice which is a large part of the value of participation.

While you, as a parent, must make the best decision for your Child. The Radford Soccer Club must try to make the best decisions it can for all the children playing soccer within the Club.
