The Radford Soccer Club would like to invite all interested soccer players in the New River Valley to attend our team tryouts for the 2011-2012 Soccer Year. There are no costs associated with Team Tryouts. Teams compete in league play, tournaments, and friendlies during fall and spring seasons. In general, league play includes 8-10 matches per season played in and around the New River and Roanoke valleys. Most teams also participate in one or up to three weekend tournaments per season. Tournaments are typically located in Virginia or adjoining states.
Travel teams are managed by team parents within the guidelines of the Radford Soccer Club. United States Youth Soccer regulations limit the roster size to a maximum of 22 players for U-17 and older teams and 18 for U-16 and younger teams.
Rosters take effect on September 1 for one full year. A player offered a position on a travel team has the commitment of the Radford Soccer Club he or she will remain with that team for the soccer year. Most U14 teams and older do not participant in league play during the spring season due to conflicts with high school soccer. Some may play only in tournaments.
Players joining a team will be expected to attend practices faithfully, participate in matches, and be a contributing, positive member of the team.
Parents should be aware of their responsibilities. These include timely transportation, financial responsibilities, and the necessity to occasionally volunteer within the team and the Radford Soccer Club.
Typical costs to participate on a Radford Soccer Club travel team range from $200 – $400 per player, per soccer year. This cost covers Radford Soccer Club dues, Blue Ridge Classic League dues, Virginia Youth Soccer Association Insurance, tournament entry fees, coaching, referees, and general team supplies. This amount does not cover individual family travel expenses or a player’s uniform. The Radford Soccer Club has a limited number of stipends available to help cover the costs for players with financial needs.
Tryouts were held in Bissett Park in Radford. Tryouts for Boy’s Teams were held on May 16th, beginning at 6:00 PM. Tryouts for Girl’s Teams were held on May 17th, beginning at 6:00 PM.
