Participation on Radford Soccer Club teams is open to all youth in the New River Valley area. Teams compete in league play, tournament play, and "friendlies" during fall and spring seasons. League play typically includes 8-10 matches played in and around the New River and Roanoke Valleys. Most teams also participate in 2 or 3 weekend tournaments per season in Virginia or adjoining states.

 

Tryouts are held each May and rosters take effect on September 1 for one full year. A player offered a position on a travel team has the commitment of the Radford Soccer Club that he or she will remain with that team for the soccer year. Most U14 and older teams do not play during the spring because of the conflicts with high school soccer.

 

Travel teams are managed by team parents with the guidelines provided by the Radford Soccer Club. Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) regulations, Virginia Youth Soccer Association, and the Blue Ridge Classic League govern teams and play. Team roster size is limited to a maximum of 22 players for U-17 and older teams and 18 players for U-16 and younger teams.

 

All efforts will be made to provide a team at each age group for boys and girls. However, the ability to do so depends primarily on the number of individuals participating in the tryout process. In some instances, multi-aged teams may be formed. The Radford Soccer Club will notify candidates and parents following team formation.

 

U-10: player will turn 10 on or after August 1, 2008
U-11: player will turn 11 on or after August 1, 2008
U-12: player will turn 12 on or after August 1, 2008
U-13: player will turn 13 on or after August 1, 2008
U-14: player will turn 14 on or after August 1, 2008
U-15: player will turn 15 on or after August 1, 2008
U-16: player will turn 16 on or after August 1, 2008
U-17: player will turn 17 on or after August 1, 2008

There are no costs associated with try outing for a team. Typical costs to participate on a Radford Soccer Club team range from $200-$400 per player per year. This cost covers Radford Soccer Club, Blue Ridge Classic League dues, Virginia Youth Soccer Association insurance, coaching, referee fees, tournament entry fees, and general team supplies.  This amount does not cover individual family travel expenses or player uniform costs.  Please note is it the goal of the Club to bring to the joy of soccer to any interested player regardless of financial means.  Funds are available to subsidize costs for those players who qualify.  Please speak with a board member regarding this issue.
